Education
The Shree Dip Bahadur Karki Memorial Foundation is dedicated to enhancing education in Ramechhap District in collaboration with its German partner Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V. Among these initiatives is the Day Meal Project (DMP), which provides warm meals to students, diminishing dropout rates and promoting nutrition. The Foundation’s digital education efforts include equipping with computers, internet, and a projector for interactive teaching. The foundation has arranged an English and Computer teacher, enhancing education quality and digital literacy. Supplementing the curriculum, the Foundation distributed materials like sports equipment and artistic tools, fostering holistic development. During the pandemic, the Foundation provided face masks and warm socks to protect student well-being.
Infrastructure improvements were achieved by the Foundation, including a kitchen construction project funded by Schöck Foundation, Deutsche Bahn Stiftung and Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V. This extended to water facilities and hand washing stations for a healthier learning environment. Furthering its mission, the Foundation in collaboration with its major partner Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V. has established a reading library at schools, encouraging educational exploration. A vital endeavor is the Dip Bahadur Karki Scholarship Scheme, supporting economically challenged students at Shree Gaurishankar Secondary School from grades 4 to 12. This program reflects the Foundation’s commitment to education access and fostering brighter futures for both students and communities.
Day Meal Project (DMP)
The foundation has been implementing the Day Meal Project (DMP) at Shree Gaiyashwori Basic School in Ramechhap Municipality-7, Sukajor, Ramechhap with financial assistance from Hilfe Fur Ramechhap e.V., Germany. The project aims to provide warm meals to students from poor and marginalized families, helping to decrease the dropout rate and ensuring that children receive nutritious meals during the day. The foundation has been providing day meals to school children for the last three years. In collaboration with its donor, the foundation extended DMP to Shree Siddheshwor Basic School in Ramechhap Municipality-7, Sukajor, Mugan in May 2023, directly benefiting 25 students and their families. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to improving education, health, and overall well-being in rural communities.
Internet Connection and Computer
The Shree Dip Bahadur Karki Memorial Foundation, with financial assistance from Hilfe Fur Ramechhap e.V., Germany, aims to provide digital learning platforms to students. The foundation has equipped Shree Gaiyashwori Basic School with two computers and an internet connection. Additionally, Hilfe Fur Ramechhap e.V. donated a projector to the school, enabling teaching through audiovisual methods. Responding to a request from Shree Siddheshwor Basic School in Ramechhap Municipality-7, Mugan, Ramechhap, the foundation and its donor also established an internet connection at the school. With this connection, students are now using computers and various audiovisual learning materials via the internet, enhancing their educational experience with advanced teaching and learning facilities.
English and Computer Teacher
The Shree Dip Bahadur Karki Memorial Foundation, in collaboration with the school management committee and other stakeholders, appointed an English and Computer teacher at Shree Gaiyashwori Basic School to provide quality education and familiarize students with digital gadgets such as computers, email, and the internet. This project was made possible with financial assistance from Hilfe Fur Ramechhap e.V. The teacher is responsible for conducting English and Computer classes, organizing extracurricular activities, and coordinating all activities organized by the school and the foundation. This initiative aims to enhance students’ digital literacy and overall educational experience.
Distribution of Teaching and Learning Materials
To supplement the academic curriculum and enhance the learning experience of the students, the foundation has provided extracurricular materials such as sports equipment, drawing books, pencils, colored pencils, and notebooks. These materials aim to develop students’ physical and creative abilities while fostering a sense of teamwork and companionship. The foundation believes that a well-rounded education goes beyond academics and encompasses a range of life skills, supporting students’ holistic development through these initiatives.
Distribution of Face Mask and Warm Shocks
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shree Dip Bahadur Karki Memorial Foundation, in collaboration with Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V., prioritized the health and well-being of students and staff by providing reusable face masks to prevent the spread of the virus. These masks were distributed to students at Shree Gaiyashwori Basic School in Ramechhap Municipality-7, Sukajor, and Shree Nagkanya Secondary School in Manthali Municipality-1, Gadwari, Manthali. Additionally, the foundation distributed warm socks to the students of Shree Gaiyashwori Basic School. These socks were specially prepared and sent from Germany by Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V. to help the students cope with the cold winter season.
Construction of Kitchen and Organization of Kitchen Utensils
To further support the Day Meal Project, the foundation received a request from the school management committee to construct a properly managed kitchen. Although the foundation had initiated the Day Meal Project at Shree Gaiyashwori Basic School, the lack of a proper kitchen and utensils created management challenges. In response, the foundation facilitated the construction of a well-equipped kitchen after consulting with the School Management Committee and other stakeholders. The foundation managed both the physical and technical aspects of the construction. This project was funded by Schoeck-Familien-Stiftung, Deutsche Bahn Stiftung, and Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V. Additionally, the foundation purchased necessary kitchen equipment, including fridges, lunch plates, cooking stoves, cooking vessels, spoons, glasses, water jars, and other required materials.
Water Connection and Hand Washing Station Construction
The Shree Dip Bahadur Karki Memorial Foundation, with financial assistance from Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V., has undertaken various initiatives to improve facilities at Shree Gaiyashwori Basic School. One key initiative was the installation of a water connection channel, which includes a water tank, distribution pipe, and tap. Additionally, the foundation established a safe drinking water facility and a handwashing station at the school, ensuring that students have access to clean and safe water. These initiatives not only improve the health and hygiene of the students but also create a more conducive learning environment.
Library Set-up and Expansion
The Shree Dip Bahadur Karki Memorial Foundation, in its effort to promote education and reading habits among students, has established a small reading library at Shree Gaiyashwori Basic School with financial support from Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V. The library is equipped with primary-level books, drawing books, colors, and other materials for the students. To further support education, the foundation, in coordination with Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V., Germany, has provided Shree Gaurishankar Higher Secondary School in Ramechhap with various books in Nepali and English, covering subjects like history, literature, geography, music, religions, science, and more.
Additionally, the foundation has collaborated with the School Management Committee and teachers to provide access to the school library for the surrounding community, aiming to promote learning habits and provide access to educational materials for enthusiasts. This expansion has made it possible for the public to access educational resources and engage in learning activities.
Dip Bahadur Karki Scholarship Scheme
Our aim is to promote access to quality education and reduce the dropout rate among children facing economic barriers. To achieve this, the Shree Dip Bahadur Karki Memorial Foundation has launched the “Shree Dip Bahadur Karki Scholarship Scheme,” providing scholarships to two deserving students from Shree Gaurishankar Secondary School, currently in grades 4 and 5. We are committed to supporting these students until they complete their studies up to grade 12. Through this assistance, we hope to create opportunities for bright young minds and contribute to a better future for them and their communities. Additionally, with financial support from Hilfe fur Ramechhap e.V. Germany, the foundation is also providing a scholarship to Sajina Sahi for her studies.
